Summary of Qualifications
Built from lived experience, grounded in research, and designed for sustainability.
Dr. Ashlie James is a Leadership Coach, Organizational Strategist, and scholar-practitioner dedicated to helping purpose-driven leaders lead with clarity, sustainability, and integrity—without sacrificing their well-being in the process.
With more than two decades of experience in nonprofit executive leadership, Ashlie has founded and led nonprofits and social enterprises, guided teams through seasons of growth and complexity, and carried the full weight of vision, strategy, and organizational responsibility. Her leadership experience is complemented by years of consulting with organizations and leadership teams, where she has supported strategic planning, leadership development, program development, and organizational effectiveness across diverse contexts.
In addition to her executive and consulting work, Ashlie serves on boards in advisory and governance capacities, contributing to organizational oversight, strategic direction, capacity building and long-term sustainability. She also teaches as an adjunct instructor, equipping emerging leaders and professionals with frameworks in leadership, communication, and organizational practice.
Ashlie’s work is grounded in both lived experience and rigorous academic training. She holds advanced degrees in management and leadership, including doctoral-level study focused on leadership, conflict, and organizational communication. She is certified in evidence-based assessment tools, including the MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), MMTIC® (Murphy-Meisgeier Type Indicator for Children), and HeartMath® Building Personal Resilience (BPR), which she integrates into her coaching and leadership development work.
Her background is further supported by interdisciplinary training across life skills development, mental health first aid, mind-body coaching, social-emotional learning, sound therapy, restorative yoga, mindfulness, conflict resolution, trauma-informed care, retreat facilitation, nonprofit human resources, and nonprofit financial management—informing a holistic, systems-aware approach to leadership.
Through her signature EMBRACE Framework, Ashlie brings together neuroscience, embodied leadership, conflict competence, and restorative practices to support mission-driven leaders in moving beyond chronic stress, compassion fatigue, and overextension. Her approach focuses not only on how leaders perform, but on how they sustain the internal capacity required to lead well over time.
Ashlie’s work is rooted in a clear and often overlooked truth: leadership is not only about what you carry—it is about how you carry it. She equips leaders to build the clarity, resilience, and alignment necessary to lead with both effectiveness and wholeness.
Embrace Leadership Collective envisions a world where mission-driven leaders thrive without depletion — cultivating embodied resilience and restorative leadership practices that transform organizational culture and produce sustainable, values-aligned impact.
Embrace Leadership Collective supports purpose-driven leaders in overcoming burnout and reclaiming their strength through embodied practices and restorative strategy. We guide changemakers back to themselves — helping them restore their energy, redefine their boundaries, and lead with resilience, clarity, and sustainable impact.
Our Perspective
The EMBRACE Framework integrates research, lived leadership experience, and restorative practices to support the whole leader—not just their performance.
We believe leadership is not just about strategy or performance—it’s about capacity.
Too often, leaders are equipped to do more, but not supported in how to sustain what they carry. Our work focuses on both: strengthening how you lead while expanding your ability to lead without depletion.
E — Embodiment: Strengthening awareness of your internal state so you can lead with presence, not reactivity.
M — Mindfulness: Cultivating clarity and focus in the midst of complexity and demand.
B — Balance: Establishing sustainable rhythms that support both leadership and well-being.
R — Resilience: Expanding your capacity to navigate pressure, conflict, and uncertainty.
A — Authenticity: Leading in alignment with your values, voice, and leadership identity.
C — Compassion: Practicing empathy without self-abandonment or overextension.
E — Empowerment: Building systems, boundaries, and structures that support sustainable leadership.
Our Approach
Private coaching designed for leaders ready to recalibrate how they lead, work, and sustain their impact.
Our work is grounded in a leadership model designed to help high-capacity leaders move from burnout and overextension to clarity, resilience, and sustainable impact. This coaching approach is both strategic and restorative. We work with leaders to strengthen how they think, lead, and make decisions—while also addressing the internal capacity required to sustain leadership over time.
This includes:
Identifying patterns of overextension and burnout
Strengthening boundaries and leadership clarity
Navigating conflict with greater competence and confidence
Recalibrating leadership practices for long-term sustainability
This work is tailored—not templated.
Because sustainable leadership requires more than tools. It requires alignment.
You are likely a strong fit for Embrace Leadership Collective if you:
Lead or serve within a nonprofit, ministry, social enterprise, or other mission-driven organization, including health and human services
Feel responsible for others’ well-being and often carry that weight without adequate support
Are highly capable and committed—but quietly navigating stress, burnout, or compassion fatigue
Struggle to rest without guilt or feel caught in a cycle of constant output
Recognize how team dynamics, conflict, or overwhelm are impacting your organization’s health
Want to lead with clarity, sustainability, and values alignment—not just survive the demands of leadership
